This is an association of people sympathetic to the idea that academic inquiry should help humanity acquire more wisdom by rational means. Wisdom is taken to be the capacity to realize what is of value in life, for oneself and others. It includes knowledge, understanding and technological know-how, and much else besides. Friends of Wisdom try to encourage universities and schools actively to seek and promote wisdom by educational and intellectual means. LINKS From Knowledge to Wisdom This contains information about Nicholas Maxwell's latest book. This site includes a number of articles by Nicholas Maxwell, along with articles by a number of other philosophers of science. From Knowledge to Wisdom, 2nd Edition The Introduction to the forthcoming 2nd edition of Maxwell's book From Knowledge to Wisdom can be found at this site. This has a great deal of fascinating information about books, on-line texts, organizations and groups concerned with aspects of wisdom. The Philosophy Site of Rafe Champion This has essays and reviews by Rafe Champion, inspired by Karl Popper

that aim-oriented empiricism is an improvement over the views of Popper,

Philosophy of Science Resources This site contains a wealth of information about philosophy of science. Scientists for Global Responsibility (SGR) This promotes ethical science and technology - based on the principles of openness, accountability, peace, social justice, and environmental sustainability. Their work involves research, education, lobbying and providing a support network for ethically-concerned scientists. SGR is an independent UK-based membership organisation with around 600 scientist members. The International Institute
of Peace Studies and Global Philosophy This is the site of the campaigning organization, on which "Friends of Wisdom" is modelled. The Proceedings of the Friesian School This contains essays that seek to promote critical philosophy in the
tradition of Kant, Fries, Schopenhauer, Nelson and Popper. This "supports the development of wisdom in people, organizations, and communities through education, research and consultation". The director is Dr. Carrie Bassett.
